Top 5 Desserts in Amsterdam!

I recently just came back from my second European trip (to UK, the Netherlands and Iceland) and it was a blast (see for yourself on my travel instagram)! And when you think of desserts in the Netherlands, Amsterdam in particular, what comes to your mind? I have put together my top 5 that I’ve tried during my trip, let me know if some of them are actually the ones you were thinking of as well, or if there’s something else that I have missed!

1. Stroopwafel

When anyone talks about the Netherlands, stroopwafel has to be the number 1 little treat people think of!

Surprisingly (or not so surprised to some of you) I have tried more than 1 stroopwafel places for the 3 days I spent in Amsterdam, and they are:

a. Original Stroopwafels in Albert Cuyp Markt (review coming soon!)
b. Lanskroon Bakery‘s coffee & caramel flavoured Stroppwafel

2. Poffertjes

These little cute-sy traditional Dutch pancakes were just so delicious that I can indulged them within seconds! These bite-sized treats with powdered sugar and syrup were totally to die for! Usually they come with fruits like strawberries!

3. Chocolate Cookies

Did you know there is a very well-known chocolate cookie shop in Amsterdam that opened in 2014, and quickly stole every sweet tooth person’s heart?

Van Stapele Koekmakerij is a cute little shop near the infamous flower market, Bloemenmarkt. They only sell the thing they specialized at: the delicious chocolate cookie! The rich chocolate crunch with the soft, gooey white chocolate filling inside is just so amazing and satsifying. Oh just a little heads up, depending on the time of the day, there will likely be a queue to get into the shop and grab some cookies home. You can purchase them individually (€2) or in a box of 6 for €10 and they are at their best within 4 days.

4. Apple Pie

Another shop that gained popularity because of their dessert is Winkel 43 in the Jordaan area. Their apple pie was just fabulous with their perfect crust and warm chunks of apples inside! Not overly sweet, but I would still suggest to share with someone and it would be a perfect sweet for a cute date!

this not-overly-sweet apple pie totally warmed my heart!

5. Fresh Mint Tea

Technically not so much of a dessert, but why not include it here as well? I have heard it a lot and seen it at a lot of the restaurants here. This cup of tea filled with fresh mint is just a great refreshment – oh and many places usually provide you with a packet of honey in case you want to make it a little bit sweeter 🙂

Nice cup of refreshment at the Rijksmuseum

What do you think about this list? Have you visited Amsterdam yet? Any must-try desserts you think I’ve missed? Let me know!
